Murphy played for head coach Bob Greco at Westside High School in Omaha, Neb. … a two-time firstteam All-Nebraska selection in 2005 and 2006 and was an honorable mention all-state selection in 2004 … earned honorable mention All-America honors … was a three-time firstteam all-metro selection … recorded 25 wins in his high school career … helped Westside to two state championships and two runner-up finishes during his career. Senior (2006): Murphy posted a 6-1 record with a 1.20 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 2006 … captained the 2006 all-state team … pitched a complete game (seven innings) shutout to lead Westside to the state championship. Sam is the son of Dan and Ann Murphy … has one sister, Molly, and one brother, Mike … a member of the National Honor Society … also recruited by Kansas, Creighton and Kansas State.
