Sam Murphy is a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher out of Omaha Westside High School … throws in the upper 80s and will touch the low 90s … locates well with a bulldog attitude on the mound … Arkansas coaches believe Murphy was the best pitcher coming out of the Omaha area in the 2006 recruiting class … named the No. 12 prospect in the state of Nebraska by Baseball America prior to the 2006 MLB Draft … can come in and make a difference early in his career

Murphy played for head coach Bob Greco at Westside High School in Omaha, Neb. … a two-time firstteam All-Nebraska selection in 2005 and 2006 and was an honorable mention all-state selection in 2004 … earned honorable mention All-America honors … was a three-time firstteam all-metro selection … recorded 25 wins in his high school career … helped Westside to two state championships and two runner-up finishes during his career. Senior (2006): Murphy posted a 6-1 record with a 1.20 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 2006 … captained the 2006 all-state team … pitched a complete game (seven innings) shutout to lead Westside to the state championship. Junior (2005): He went 7-1 on the mound with a 1.30 ERA and 50 strikeouts. Sophomore (2004): Murphy
recorded a 6-2 record with a 1.80 ERA and 45 strikeouts. Freshman (2003): He went 1-0 with a 3.01 ERA and seven strikeouts as Westside captured the state championship.

Personal
 
Sam is the son of Dan and Ann Murphy … has one sister, Molly, and one brother, Mike … a member of the National Honor Society … also recruited by Kansas, Creighton and Kansas State.
